We are a watchdog holding grid operators accountable to consumers, states, and a clean, affordable energy future.

What is PJM? And how does it affect your electricity bill?

PJM is the nation's biggest power grid operator—but most people have never heard of it. More than 67 million electric customers are served by the PJM Interconnection, a grid operator covering all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia from the Midwest to the East Coast.

PJM’s decisions have a significant impact on the affordability, reliability, and cleanliness of our power—and often, those choices increase costs and delay the adoption of cheaper, cleaner energy solutions.

Affordable Electricity

PJM-driven costs make up more than half of the average person’s electricity bill. In the PJM region, the wholesale cost of electricity has risen dramatically, fueling the affordability crisis for everyday ratepayers—and PJM policies play a big role in keeping prices high.

We work with partners, both within PJM and at the state level, to promote policies that lower energy costs for everyday consumers.

Accountability and PJM Reform

PJM has the power of a government, but is a private corporation with no accountability to the public. The majority of PJM’s 1000+ Members are big energy companies with a vested interest in keeping prices high. And these Members vote on issues that affect the affordability, reliability, and cleanliness of our electricity, with no accountability to the public.

We push for reforms at PJM to make Member votes transparent, increase representation for consumer voices, and give states more power to protect residents.

Clean, Reliable Power

PJM policies disproportionately prop up outdated, expensive fossil fuel power plants, and needlessly drive up the cost of transmission buildout.

We push for solutions that prioritize and accelerate investments in clean, reliable, and affordable energy sources—and we advocate for better transmission planning, to both save customers money and build a more resilient grid.
